;; through his youth, nik was raised as any young boy of royalty might be raised; he was taught basic academic lessons by his mother during the day hours, and during the later hours of the day, she made sure she payed attention to his manners, and asked him to observe how his father acted, since alexander was home in the evenings.
;; when he was thirteen, he began recieving dancing lessons and spent the majority of his time in the gym - either practicing fencing with his tutor or his dancing or just exercising in general.
;; he never lost interest in his childhood music studies, and was often heard playing the piano or guitar.
;; nikolai was nineteen when he showed his father at dinner one night the blueprints he had designed to have their home turned into a boarding school. alexander was enraged and burned the papers before nikolai's very eyes. his mother sat in silence. he and his father did not speak fortwo years.
;; by the time he was twenty-three, when he and his father were attempting to restore their relationship, nik had delighted his father by earning his pilot's liscense. to celebrate, alexander purchased a helicopter for his son - a technology that was outrageously priced and generally reserved for member's of the Councilman's Board, which alexander was a part of, but which nikolai was not.
;; having spent most of his life confined to his family's estate, the opportunity to travel delighted him to his core, and he was rarely seen at home.
;; at twenty-five, nikolai married the famous french stage actress vivian angelique leblanc. their marriage lasted four years before they divorced and vivian took everything he had bought with her.
;; nikolai spent his twenty-ninth year of age in a depressed recluse, traveling everywhere that would keep him away from home and rarely being seen by anyone who knew him.
;; when he was thirty, his father died - how he died the Councilman's Board never said - and left moira widowed.
;; to keep his mother out of a despression, nikolai gave up his personal agenda and stayed home with moira for four years. she eventually passed away when she caught a cold and didn't have the heart to overcome it.
;; virtually alone in his family's vast estate, nikolai spent one last year continuing his father's duties before he rejected the responsibility and the Board altogether and pursued a life of near constant travel.
;; nikolai met zina schon, a german primary school teacher, when he was thirty-eight and she was twenty-six. the two became the best friends missing from each others life almost instantly, and have rarely been apart sense.
;; at forty-two, nikolai began the grand renovation of his home, utilizing government technologies that were purchased at the cost of half his father's pension and five more years of service to the Board. as a result, nikolai did not see zina or his home for five years.
;; he returned to find a letter that stood out from the heaping pile of mail that had built up. it was sent from an irish priest regarding the young man he had been raising for the last twenty years - the now thirty year old mister raphael anton reef. of course, raphael had only just discovered and changed his last name to his official surname. somehow, nikolai's father had spawned an illegitimate son who had ended up being raised in a church in ireland. the absurdity of the situation delighted nikolai, and upon resuming his visits to the intensely releaved zina, he began to visit his half-brother as well.
;; when numinis academy was complete, and the two years of contruction that remained were for the insolated track and the greenhouse, nik invited zina and raphael to live with him free of cost, if they would teach at his school. they did so, obviously both delighted for the opportunity.
;; two years later, nikolai sent letters of invitation to various youths across the globe, offering to pay their full tuition and asking them to attend his academy. nothing in nik's life thusfar has made him as happy as watching his life's work come to alive.

Looking up at the ceiling above his bed, he noticed the way the moonlight was flickering inn through the window, causing objects placed throughout the room to cast their shadows on the ceiling. To a younger mind, the shadows would appear as semi-translucent monsters doing a tribal dance above him. For Zeke, that dance was always a happy dance, or a dance of celebration or perhaps initiation for another monster. Eventually the monsters got less shy and he could begin to see their colors, their faces, their eyes, and then he could see them completely - in his minds eye. Each were unique and behaved differently - you could never read one based off of what you knew of another. For years, Zeke was fascinated with his monsters, and even began to name them and fantasize about adventures with them.

Of course, those years were past, and Zeke knew now, with nostalgic disappointment that his monsters were merely shadows; shadows like the once that danced before him this very moment. Of course, he still believed that they existed somewhere, and that he had betrayed them and that they were disappointed in him - maybe even angry. This only served to feed his near-constant state of paranoia. With a deep sigh, he rubbed his stomach in small circles in an attempt to put himself asleep.

He awoke two hours later, at three-minutes til one. He stared into space for ten minutes before it became clear that he wasn't going to fall asleep again any time soon, so he rolled off his bed, slipped his feet into his Gir slippers (he loved Invader Zim, and most Muggle cartoons) and sauntered out into the dorm commons, hoping to find another carbon-based life-form with which to converse until he became sleepy again.
