    ALL AROUND ME ARE FAMILIAR FACES
    worn out places, worn out faces

    ;; see REEF, NIKOLAI BORIS

    BRIGHT AND EARLY FOR THEIR DAILY RACES
    going nowhere, going nowhere

    name;; jeremiah thomas bentman
    birthday;; november eleventh
    age;; sixty-one
    description;;
    ;; jeremiah has light green eyes and short, whispy white hair. occasionally he shaves his beard and dons a small patch of fuzz on his chin which he considers to be a goatee.
    ;; he is five 5'11'' tall and generally weighs about 180lbs. he is a very picky eater and is serious about not losing out to age, and tries hard to keep his body healthy. he has absurdly toned legs from biking.
    ;; his walk is light footed and relaxed. occasionally he appears to float across the hallways. he is often seen with his head down, presumably in thought, but quite possibly he is sleep walking.
    ;; his aura is kind, loving, generous, and helpful. if there was anyone in the current times to embody the aura of compassion, it would be jeremiah bentman.
    ;; he dresses casually, rarely seen in anything other than long khaki pants, brown suede shoes and a variety of button shirts which he cycles through about every two weeks.
    ;; when he speaks his eyes sparkle and attend those at which they focus with an intensity that do not seem to fit his age. while his mind may seem ancient in its expansive wisdom, his heart is as youthful as those whom he teaches.
    ;; his voice is soft and low and soothing - so much so that even though students respect him and show an overall interest in his subjects, it is often hard for them to focus on what he says.

    THEIR TEARS ARE FILLING UP THEIR GLASSES
    no expression, no expression

    inside their life and mind;;
    ;; jeremiah was a beloved teacher, and almost a friend to each of his students. he was a symbol of respect amoungst his peers. he constantly recieved honors and awards for his contribution to the education of youth.
    ;; more than a teacher, he was a man. a man with much life experience to share with any willing to listen, with wisdom beyond his lifetime, and with a deeply compassionate heart.
    ;; his nature and persistent belief in the good and capable in all had a profound affect on all, but the most drastic was the affect it had on the depressed, angry, unmotivated and overall hopeless case of patrick garrickson.
    ;; patrick rarely showed up to jeremiah's class, but when he did, he found that the teacher was nothing but kind, helpful, and supportive. eventually it started to irritate patrick, and soon he took it upon himself to show up every day, so that he could burdgeon his professor, and abuse his goodwill in every way possible.
    ;; then it happened, and jeremiah was not at all suprised when it did. news in a school passes quickly, and it became known that patrick had attempted suicide. when he returned to the school, no one payed attention to him, save a few, who seemed only interested in making fun of him. a hollow shell of a person, he sat in jeremiah's class once more.
    ;; at first, jeremiah almost did not even notice patrick was back. but for him, it was hard to ignore the dark shape sitting in the very back. he set his class to work, and wandered to the back. patrick looked at him, his eyes full of something that to this day - if he wanted to remember it - jeremiah can not discern. but when the teacher sat next to him for the next thirty minutes, not saying a word, and then continued to sit there and instruct the class for the rest of the period, patrick changed.
    ;; the two stayed in their seats as the class left. eventually everyone else was gone. still no words had been exchanged between them, and patrick began to cry. he cried for every ache in his soul, and jeremiah held him until he was done, once or twice having to shoo people out of his room.
    ;; from that day forward, the two were nearly inseperable. patrick did everything he could to help jeremiah, and jeremiah allowed patrick to tail him around the school. they eventually got more comfortable talking to each other, and those who noticed them, they almost appeared as if they had been childhood friends.
    ;; patrick began to do better in school, and even made a few friends. this delighted jeremiah, and he accepted that he and patrick were beginning to drift apart.
    ;; then patrick got arrested for shoplifting. jeremiah visited him, of course. he did not seem angry, but expressed clearly that patrick was worth too much to let himself fall so low. he made clear that he, if no one else, would not allow patrick to become yet another dregg of society, and suggested patrick find a better use of his time and talents.
    ;; he thought all was well, because for the rest of the school year and the better half of patrick's last one, it seemed that everything was back ot the way it should be. patrick was jeremiah's official student aide, doing well in classes, and loved by his new friends. and then the news exploded across the school. jeremiah would have expected rumors, a warning, or something. but there were none. and in a day, patrick was the hero of the school.
    ;; patrick had been hacking into the computer systems of the Councilman's Board. how patrick got a computer jeremiah still does not know. what he had been doing for the last two weeks was taking their money and delivering it to students homes. for some reason, it was last night that every single student at the school had received a cash delivery. patrick's deeds were confirmed when he finally came across jeremiah and handed him a suitcase. "i stole the most for you, jeremey. you're the last teacher to get it." the boy seemed so happy, and so proud, that jeremiah could not help but praise him. he had always been against the Board himself, so he couldn't really argue.
    ;; it was when he arrived at school the next day that he knew something was wrong. patrick wasn't already there waiting for him. he hadn't come in all morning. there was no email from him. but wait - there was an email from an unknown sender. he followed its instructions with cold feet, and unlocked and entered his classroom. he flipped on the lights to find patrick's head hanging from the ceiling. written on the whiteboard - in blood - was one sentence. "THERE ARE NO MARTYRS HERE."
    ;; he stayed out of school for a month, but his vacation didn't help ease his mind. in his time to himself all he could imagine was the torture and agony that must have been his student's - no, his friend's, his son's, even - last memories in this life.
    ;; the next five years were miserable, and students and staff watched as the beloved jeremiah bentman spiraled fast into a deep depression. he began to lose interest not only in teaching, but in having hope in general.
    ;; it was five years after his student's death, when jeremiah had almost completely lost faith in the world and its inhabitants that he read the paper. and in the very back of the world news, there was an article about a prince who had turned his family estate into an academy. it was this article that changed jeremiah's life, and gave him a second wind at hoping that the world could change.
    ;; there that man was again - that man who had consistently appeared through the later half of jeremiah's life. a man who many did not know of, but who, for those who did, seemed to inspire the part of them that was not satisfied with the current state of the world to get off their rears and do something about it. of course, many did for their own reasons, and were killed in the process. but reef seemed to have somehting going for him. it seemed that he was so respected - albeit disliked amoungst the Board with great intensity - that they did not believe they had anything to worry about from him. it was as if he was so blantantly disfavoring of their methods and ways that they thought there was no way reef would ever actually rise against them; it was too obvious and he'd never get away with it. and it was as if reef had learned that if you cannot change the world, you do not give up, but until you have your destined opportunity to make progress, you create a world for yourself. and that was exactly what he was doing with his school on prince mountain.
    ;; it was then that he knew that what this man stood for in life - his goals, dreams and aspirations - were onces that reflected his own. he felt an immediate rush of affection for what reef was doing - while to any who could access the information on the prince would see that he was being generous and creating a school as a way to further give bakc to his community, jeremiah saw so much more. he saw all the pieces connect, and create a whole being. he saw this admirable man for who he was and what he stood for. and more than anything, he admired how he had so far managed to sneak under the radar. mr. bentman knew then exactly what he had to do. he wrote prince nikolai boris reef a letter, telling him everything, and spilling his very soul.
    ;; when he recieved a phone call three days later, he knew it had to be from someone important, since ownership of phones was reduced to members of the field of education, emergency workers, government officials, and persons of various degrees of royalty. it was prince reef, of course, calling to invite jeremiah to board the helicopter that he would be personally piloting that very afternoon. he advized him to pack his bags and prepare for another school year. jeremiah understood at once, of course, and was packed and ready long before the prince arrived.

    HIDE MY HEAD I WANNA DROWN MY SORROW
