;; otto was a hardened and honored veteran and imogen was one of the most esteemed patronesses germany could name. imogen died of heart failure when basil was twelve - the same year nikolai was born.
;; proud of his eldest son, alexander, otto succeeded in virtually ignoring his unplanned son's existence for another six years before discovering that his now adult-son (basil) was making tons of money running an underground pot dealing business
;; fed up with what had become of the boy that shared his honorable last name and feeling largely responsible since he had been ashamed and ignored the boy during the most vital years of his youth, otto prepared to send his son off to train with the military. that same night, father and son had an intense conversation - but it wasn't about joining the military. It was about how basil was going to run off and travel with his boyfriend franz. franz arrived to meet the legendary otto reef, and ten minutes after meeting the charming and successful young landowner, otto excused himself to the restroom where he proceeded to jump out the window and die.
;; for the majority of basil's prime, he traveled the globe, involving himself in various businesses and getting asked to leave almost every city that held him for more than a year. he stopped living with franz shortly after his first year of moving in on account of the deaths of his only remaining parent.
;; basil never forgot his brother alexander. although alex was not opposed to basil's existence like his father, alex was usually busy with work. basil steered clear of his brother, not out of dislike but merely out of fear of his ties to the government.
;; once alexander died, basil made a habit of visiting his nephew and his mother on occasion. nik's mother thought basil was entertaining and his stories seemed to please her. nik loved basil and appreciated his help and company, although the man drives him insane to this day. their relationship is complicated and largely built on tough love. but nik would give almost anything for basil and it was out of his concern for basil's health and in keeping him out of trouble that he eventually asked him to come and teach herbology at his academy.
;; through his periods of staying with nik before being invited to live in his estate, basil would occasionally run into kyrie engles - a girl he could relate to and whom he adored almost instantly. the two became fast friends, confidants, and partners in crime.
;; basil has connections almost everywhere. people like him for his eccentricities and as such, he has secure friendships with powerful people and resourceful allies.
;; he owns a cottage in the mountains in canada - no one knows this. he inherited it from franz, who died having no one but basil to leave his things to.
;; basil is filthy rich and has his money protected in accounts in switzerland. even the government cannot trace his money. his underground business and relations with certain associates can be thanked for his endless supply of green.
;; basil is looking into the purchase of a french chateau - he plans to host an annual party there, the theme being different every year
;; he has started many compositions on the piano. nik says he is brilliant at a level similar to mozart. however, basil has never cared nor had the attention span to finish anything he's started, creatively speaking.
